This first week of December, I wanted to talk about planning “stress-less” holiday memories…after all, aren’t fun Christmas memories what we all remember most- not the decor, not the food, not the gifts, but the TIME we share with family and friends is the most special!
Here are a few ideas for planning special family Christmas memories, they RARELY “just happen”, some of the best memories take a little planning and effort…so mark off a day or evening on your calendar and be INTENTIONAL about making memories with your family this year, this means grabbing your calendar and actually SCHEDULING family holiday fun. Be sure to gather any items or supplies needed for you activity ahead of time. Its so easy to get super busy doing all the little things that need to be done, we forget to actually ENJOY the season with family and friends!
A few activities we try to plan each year during the holiday season include:
Holiday Family Movie Night- I know that my kiddo’s favorite thing to do as a family is pile on the sectional sofa in our pjs and watch a fun movie together- this is also one of the easiest things to do! Sometimes, I make family movie night cute like HERE… other times, it’s rather impromptu…but with all the fun and free classic holiday movies on television this time of year-this is an easy and inexpensive way to make memories!
Holiday Baking/Cooking Day- This is a fun one to do when the kiddos are out of school, it can be a little messy, but most kids LOVE working in the kitchen…not to mention, it might help you make some last minute gifts for friends and neighbors. Just gather all the ingredients you will need and give everyone a job and get busy! I always have fun chatting with my kiddos while cooking together, sometimes I find out things they would otherwise never bring up in a regular conversation!!
Tree Trimming Dinner- The night we set up our tree, we like to have a fun and easy meal, then decorate the tree together as a family!
Pajama Ride to look at Christmas Lights- We started this tradition when the girls were little- they got their pj’s on and we all loaded in the car and took off driving around our neighborhood and small town looking at Christmas lights, this is so easy and so fun, and the girls STILL look forward to this night each year!
Other fun ideas include:
Annual Family Party
Attending a Candlelight Service or special event at your local church.
Family Game Night
Serving together at a local food pantry or shelter
So be sure to PLAN and PREPARE to make special holiday memories this year, it doesn’t cost much and might just be the thing you remember MOST about this Christmas!!
