Earlier this week, I spoke about my desire to simplify our home and our lives. We lead a very busy life with work and kids, so I really want my home to feel like a peaceful retreat from the rest of the world (whenever possible). Sometimes I feel like we have very little control of what goes on OUTSIDE our home, so we should do our best to shape and control what happens INSIDE our home!
With that goal in mind, I have decided to make some updates to our Living Room/Dining Room/Entry area. This area is mostly a pass-through area (most of the real day-to-day living goes on in our open Kitchen/Family Room) I have however, claimed this space as my office- keeping my most of work items in our dining room bookshelves and using the dining table as my desk. Since I am the main one who uses these rooms, I have decided to transition this area from a “Shabby-French-Country-Coastal Style” to a more “Clean-Lined Contemporary Coastal Style”.
Here are some inspiration photos from my fabulous Pinterest board called Simply Sophisticated:

Most of these rooms have clean lines, a lot of white with touches of black, simple accessories and artwork and an open, airy feel. I love this lighter, more modern look and have decided to transition our Living/Dining/Entry this direction and make the area a little less “cutesy cottage”…
So, after much deliberation, we have said goodbye to our beloved 17 year old French Country dining table and chairs and purchased a more modern style table and chairs (can’t wait to show you!!) The living room mirror and artwork has already been updated with a simple black framed mirror and seashell shadowboxes, also I plan on painting a few end tables and adding a new contemporary, clean lined coffee table. Although these rooms will have a more modern, updated look, I plan on keeping all my pretty natural, coastal accents and accessories- I think the juxtaposition will be beautiful. Next week, I hope to have a few photos to share with you so stay tuned!!
