This week's Fun Family Dinner was inspired by Germany's annual Oktoberfest celebration and my husband's German heritage, here's our "family-friendly" version of Oktoberfest…
I set the table with the traditional Oktoberfest colors of blue, gold and white. I added a few simple metal can arrangements with sunflowers and a printed "Oktoberfest banner".
I can't imagine not serving giant hot pretzels and I knew these would be a hit with the kiddos!
For dinner I served grilled bratwurst, sauerkraut and German potatoe salad. I have to admit, I am a Southern girl, and this food is not familar to me- but it was delicious! I cheated a little and got the potatoe salad and sauerkrat from our local German Restaurant, but I did grill the brats and cook the onions!
We all had fun trying new foods- myself included, though I must admit, I am still not a fan of sauerkraut- but I showed the girls even mom has to try new foods sometimes!
We also looked up fun facts about the country of Germany and learned a few simple German phrases.
Join us next week for another Fun Family Dinner!
