Its been a while since I have taken you all on a Fun Florida excursion! I love to share lesser-known places here in the great state of Florida- there is so much more to see than Disney and the beach here!!
Today I wanted to share with you a little secret “gem” of a place…Bok Tower Gardens!
Bok Tower is a gorgeous bell tower built just outside the town of Lake Wales and about 30 minutes from Disney. The Bell Tower is still in working condition and each day you can hear a beautiful concert or “Carillion”- the screen below actually shows the man inside the tower playing the bells!
The bell tower itself is surrounded by a beautiful reflecting pool filled with coi and fish and waterlillies.
The grounds and gardens surrounding the tower were designed by Fredrick Law Olmstead- the landscape designer of New York’s Central Park!
I am a southerner and LOVE the towering oaks filled with Spanish Moss!
The tower was built on one of the highest points in Florida and the views of the surrounding orange groves are spectacular! Also on the grounds is a beautiful historic Mediterranean Revival home that you can also tour…
Just off the parking lot, there is an information center, museum, gift shop and cafe- all surrounded by the most beautiful flowers and plants…so pretty!
Another fun stop on the grounds is the Children’s Garden- an interactive place where kids (and Big Kids) can explore and enjoy.
Another favorite is the “Kitchen Garden” where fresh Florida produce and herbs are grown…there is even a beautiful outdoor kitchen where chefs come in an give demonstrations and events.
Bok Tower and Gardens is such a special place, and one you should not miss on your next trip to Florida!
