For most people, this image would not be very scary.
But for many YEARS I have been afraid to try sewing. I wanted to learn, and even tried to learn many times, but just had anxiety about actually doing it on my own.
Until a week or so ago. I conquered my fear of the sewing machine…I finally realized that the best way to learn how to do something is by DOING it! So I dug out my grandmother's old machine, set it up and with some help from my mother (thanks, mom!) gave it a try. I decided to start with a VERY simple project.
**Warning all accomplished, experienced seamstresses: this project will appear so easy, you may laugh…but this was a BIG deal for me!
So here's what I did…
I started with a simple project, not quite sure what to call it, it's not a pillow, but an "accent wrap" for a pillow. I have been recently rececorating for fall and thought I could update this simple burlap pillow with some accent fabric and trim.
So I took some remnant fabric and trim from an old project and decided to sew an accent wrap.
First I measured how wide I wanted it to be and then hemmed the two sides.
Next, I sewed this accent trim down the two sides for some added interest.
So it looked like this. Next I sewed it together in the back to create a "wrap"…
Then, I simply slid it over my pillow like this…
This was a quick and easy project to update any plain, solid pillow! I can't wait to make some more in different accent colors and patterns.
Here it is on my sofa…
So if there is something you have been afraid to try…JUST DO IT!
PS. I am looking for some other easy sewing projects, if you have any- please share them with me!
